The Sharrow Festival runs from 20th June to 4th July this year, culminating in a day event at Mount Pleasant Park with many fringe events organised in between. Amongst the music acts booked for the day are: Sajid Ahmed Khan Qawwali Group, Abelwell reggae band and Robert Maseko and his Congo Beats plus local bands, Mojo and the Beatniks and the Nazdrove House band plus more.
WOMAD regulars will be familiar with the exuberent character of the late Dr Hukwe Zawose, master of traditional wagogo music from Tanzania. His children have picked up his mantle and ensure that his music lives on. Vibrant music, ostrich feathers, drums and thumb pianos. Rave reviews follow them around. A chance to see them in London as part of their 2009 tour.
The fifth Wychwood Festival usually marks the start of the green field festival season. Bathed in sunshine with some great acts including, Dub Colossus, Kissmet, Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara, Bellowhead amongst others, Adrian Phillips and Lisa Coleman sent their report for GondwanaSound.
